What the must do things in New York City around the holidays?

I live in Philly, and have been to New York many times. I have never been there during the holiday season. So I really don’t need to do the tradional things like the empire state building, statue of liberty etc. I am taking my 11 year old son and 13 year old daughter. I am divorced so I won’t being bring my now ex-wife. We will probably take the ferry over from Staton Island.

It is going to be a day trip this Saturday.

I have on my list:

Rockefeller Center
Pokemon Center
Toys R Us Times Square
FAO Schwartz
Saint Patricks Cathedral.

Is there anything else that would be really good to see?

I am going to pick up a present for a couple of people, but I already have my Xmas shopping about 90% done so it is really not a shopping trip.
I would love to top it off with a theme restaurant at the end. They really like Mars 2000? and The Jekyll and Hyde Club.

Are there any that are christmas oriented?

The Staten Island Ferry is a very good idea. Its free and you can even see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island as the ferry boat crosses the harbor.

Other suggestions that may come in handy are:

-Times Square (no trip is complete without visit to the”Crossroads of the World”)
-Lower Manhattan/Wall Street Area (the money making capital of the world)
-Carriage ride through Central Park
-A walk across the Brooklyn Bridge
-Sightseeing tour of the city on a Double Decker Bus

There is one items I may have to correction you on. The Pokemon Center, located at Rockefeller Center, is longer there. It is now the Nintendo World store, where the video games and accessories from Nintendo are sold.

Since you have an 11 and a 13 year-old may I suggest you take them to Mars 2112 (that’s the correct name of the restaurant) located at 50th Street and Broadway.

May I also suggest The Carnegie Deli at 55th Street and 7th Avenue. Just make sure you go in on an empty stomach, because the Carnegie is famous for there Pastrami on Rye and that will be very filling. Trust me, as a native New Yorker I been there.

I hope this information was very helpful. enjoy you trip.
