Simple Toys Making
What should be the horse power for a DC motor and the Battery specification to move a cart of say 35 kgs?
Want to make a simple toy car. 20 kilograms shall be pay load and 15 kilograms shall be the weight of cart. The RPM should be very low (designing for a child, so the toy should move very slow) but torque should be adequate for gradient and moving around.
A good idea is to use a starter motor, this has low revs and LOTS of torque.
1 HP = 746 watts, so allow for losses
A Car battery is measured in AmpHours AH, so theoretically a 60 AH car battery should give 1 amp for 60 hours, however do NOT expect it to give 60 amps for 1 hour, internal resistance, losses, temperature gradient etc.
if you can find the appropriate meshing gear, use the Starter Motor to drive both rear wheels, simply fit a through gear on the rear drive axle, and engage it to the starter motor – this will take less energy than trying to start a car engine.
