Military Toys
Is it true that Target the retail store does not support military efforts (i.e. Marines and toys for tots)?
From my understanding Target does not support our local military when it comes time for Toys for Tots or any other drive. They will not allow them to stand outside of the stores in their dress uniforms to accept donations or will they donate any time effort or money. Now hopefully I am wrong but if I am not and I do not see proof of this being a misunderstanding, I say as an American, and a military personnel’s wife we should boycott their company until they truly come around to support our troops. Whom by the way everyone including me is indebted to, because if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be able to speak my mind right now.
I do not believe that Target’s policies are specifically directed at the military or Toys for Tots. There was a controversy a little while back regarding them denying Salvation Army as well.
I believe what Target said is that they do not want anyone soliciting people out in front of the stores. For any reason. I think this is to combat the people who pan-handle and abuse the privilage of seeking assistance from the public. Target got a lot of complaints from customers for what was felt to be harrassment.
Unfortunately Target had two choices… discriminate between a “good” charity and a “bad” charity. Thus being opened up for a lawsuit. Or they could simply deny all charities equally. Thus being opened for public ridicule and boycotts.
Target donates millions of dollars to local charities each year. Their efforts were not targetted at any particular group. Please do not boycott them simply because of that policy. Given our sue-happy culture, I think they had little choice, sadly.
