I have three male Degus that are all brothers and they live in a 4 level, BIG cage (http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m84/zack_the_dog/PICT0004-1.jpg ) and I need More taoys. All I have so far is …

What else can I make for the cage? I will buy some toys from the store, but only from SuperPet (http://www.petco.com/assets/smallsupplies/superpet_logo.jpg )

Degus don’t play with toys, really. They chew, climb, and jump.

Hammocks are wonderful. You can make them out of old jeans, shirts, sweaters, blankets, etc. Degus just love them to pieces. My four boys are always in theirs except when they want to get food or in the wheel.

You need to be extra careful with plastics. They chew everything up and whatever plastic object that will be in the cage won’t last long.

Cardboard boxes that once held food. My degus tear them up and store stuff in them and toss them around. They like to play hide-n-seek with each other. xD But be sure to tear off the parts that have glue on them (that closed the box after it left the factory).

Toilet paper/paper towel rolls are also ok, but you should cut a slit through it so they can’t get their head stuck. Last year one of my girls got her head stuck in one, and I mean wedged! She was squeeking like crazy and while it took me a while to get her out, she was fine afterwards.

Do not give degus rawhides. They are vegetarian (vegan, if you will) and that should not be anywhere near a degu.

Pesticide/chemical/paint-free, organic branches. Apple, hawthorn, -KILN-DRIED- pine, or hazelnut. Degus love them. And that should be the only wood you give them to chew.

Thick rope toys made from untreated cotton or sisal. And any toy made of natural corn or sisal. Degus LOVE them!

Also if you check over at the Degu forum at Paw-Talk, you’ll find a few lists of toys people use for their goos.
