Gender Based Toys

why do we still buy gender based toys for kids?

if girls play with princess toys, then isn’t this oppression of the female race from the start? is society teaching bias from birth?

Well, I think it’s a tad bit extreme to call a princess toy oppression. However, it may cause the girls to internalize an unrealistic ideal of female beauty. When she gets older and realizes she can never look like Barbie, it may give her low self-esteem. I think it’s fine for parents to give girls dolls, if that’s what they want to play with. I played with dolls all the time as a little girl, but I was also taught by my parents that my self worth was not based upon my looks. Instead, I base my worth on how I treat others and how I behave. I think parents should buy whatever their kids like. My toddler son loves to watch girlie cartoons like Strawberry Shortcake and I let him. I figure he’ll be pressured into conforming soon enough.
