Does your baby already choose to play with toys stereotypically made for his gender?

I have a 3 year old daughter and a 10 month old son. Over the 3 years of my daughter’s life we have accumulated tons of girly toys. We have only a few boy toys in comparison…but inevitably my son will always go for the boy toys. Trucks, balls, tractors…you name it. Is your baby favoring the toys made specifically for his/her sex as well?
dmg- my daughter was given a John Deere tractor that she could ride on and a toy drill. She loved the tractor, but as a baby was scared to death of the drill. She too, seems to usually vere towards the girl toys…the exception is when her brother is playing with a toy…she wants it then no matter what it is.
Seth- I think you are wrong…at least in our case. I know for a fact that girl toys outnumber boy toys 5 to 1 in our house. I do not try to get either my son or daughter to play with specific toys…but they usually go to the ones made for their gender.

I have 4 sons and and a 1 yr old daughter. Before she was born, I mostly had boy toys but I did have 2 baby dolls and none of the boys ever played with it. I also have a Step 2 play kitchen, which was played with for a very short while, but they lost interest and went back to the action figures, Hot wheels, trucks and Craftman workbench. My father, who raised 3 daughters, said watching them play and remembering how we played as kids is like night and day.

My daughter has now adopted her brothers dolls and loves to tinker around the play kitchen. I have never seen her play with the cars. She does like to chew on the acton figures though.
