Why does my dog prance around the bed with her “baby?”?

I have a female chihuahua. She has one special stuffed toy I’m thinking she has adopted in her mind as her baby. Every night, she holds her baby in her mouth and prances around our king bed…seemingly to find someplace special to place it. Thing is, she does this every night, so it’s not like she’s going to find anyplace new to place/bury the baby. I can’t exactly figure out what she’s doing. Is she trying to bury her baby so she can hide it from everyone? Is she trying to find a safe place for her baby to sleep? It’s just odd to me because it’s not like she’s going to find anyplace new because she does the very same thing every night in the very same way. Wonder what that’s all about?

dogs often walk in circles before lying down. it’s something primitive in dogs, and probably relates to when they were not domesticated and they would cirlce their bedding area, or prance around to make sure no snakes or anything that could harm them was there. My Shih Tzu has had the same “baby” for 9 years now. She will occasionally bury it to hide it, but she also sleeps and plays with it.
