Activity Toys For Kids
at what age can you stop planning activities when the kids have their friends over?
When the kids were preK age and they had friends over for a few hours I would plan a small craft or other things to fill the time in between free play. Kids that age need some direction and having something ready always seemed to stop any boredom or quibbling before it started.
Now they are a bit older and when they have friends over I still have activities on hand like playdoh or give impromptu play ideas but it drives me batty that some kids come over and expect that I’m a cruise director with a laundry list of plans for them. Some even get pouty when I tell them that the toy room is in the other room and I’m sure they can find something in there.
Is it wrong of me to think that kindergarten/ first grade age children should generally be able to entertain themselves in the the playroom with minimal event planning on my part?
PS I’m not talking about supervision, just entertaining them.
I’ve never planned any activities for my sons’ friends. They’ve always just come over and entertained themselves. Even the two year olds just play. Every once in a while we decide to make cookies or something like that, but that’s about as far as I go. Maybe now the friends expect it since you’ve been doing it for so long?
